It seems nowadays live band music has started gaining back its roots. Executive director at Charterhouse, the organizers of the prestigious annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, Mrs. Theresa Ayoade has cautioned Ghanaian musicians to play live or forget mounting the VGMAs stage to perform.
According to her, live band music is now the new ‘isshh’. She said, “One straight addition we’ve made with regards to this year’s VGMAs and any other upcoming VGMAs is for our Ghanaian musicians to play live”.
She continued, “If it would be the same CD performances, then it would be better for people to just sit at home and play their own songs. We are strict on our musicians playing live and from this year’s VGMAs, no musician will mount the VGMAs stage if that musician can’t perform live. We are tired of the miming, with live performance, the artiste can fuse other stuffs into their song, making it more refreshing to listen to, so from this year’s VGMAs and any other VGMAs, expect live band performances.” She disclosed.
According to Theresa Ayoade, that was the main reason the theme for this year’s VGMAs is ‘let the music play live’.
This year’s VGMAs is slated for May 7 at the AICC, and will witness live band performances from Sarkodie, R2bees, Efya, Stonebwoy, Joe Mettle, SP Kofi Sarpong, EL among others.
