I can impregnate a woman just by looking at her – Kakembo

Boxers are legend for their trash talk, which can be saucy, insulting or just bashful.

But the Ugandan fighter who came into the Joy News studios over on Thursday completely bowled viewers over when he appeared to challenged his Ghanaian opponent to a war of words.

“I myself Kakembo, I’m a guy who looks at a woman and gets her pregnant!”

It has been a banner year for boxing on the African continent in 2016 but on Saturday what may go down as the biggest fight card of the year for the entire continent is set to take place in Accra as undefeated Isaac Dogboe (13-0, 8 KOs) takes on fellow undefeated prospect Edward Kakembo (10-0, 3 KOs) in a battle for the WBO African featherweight championship.

“They call me the Messiah. I am here to crush this guy, and that’s why I have my chains with me. Because Dogboe is a dog!” Kakembo boasted.

Ghana’s Dogboe is already one of the most talked about boxers from the country since Joseph Agbeko and many boxing fans in are confident the diminutive puncher could become a world champion as well.

At the age of 17, Dogboe fought for Ghana in the 2012 Olympic Games in London, and since turning pro he has wowed even the most respected name in local boxing.

“Even Azumah Nelson said he (Isaac) fights like him,” Dogboe’s father and trainer Paul Dogboe said of the Hall of Fame champion who remains the most revered name in boxing in Ghana. “Since we came back to Ghana the response has been great. People are calling him the second Azumah Nelson.”

It goes without saying that those are some very big shoes that Dogboe is trying to fill, but so far he is more than up to the challenge.

Winning his first thirteen fights, Dogboe has already won the WBO African featherweight title in December of last year and is set to make his second defense of the belt against the Ugandan Kakembo. However, at 10-0 Kakembo is no pushover and he brings an impressive amateur resume to Ghana as well. “We just saw his last fight on the internet,” Paul Dogboe said of Kakembo. “He is a very powerful guy. He’s strong.”

But Paul Dogboe remains confident that although Kakembo will test his son and give fans a tremendous fight, that in the end Isaac will come out on top. “Isaac adapts,” Paul Dogboe added. Isaac can fight southpaw and change. That is one advantage we have. We always change out style in the ring.”

For boxing fans in Ghana it will be either a coming out party for a fighter widely touted as the next superstar in Ghanaian boxing or it will be a monumental disappointment.

But assuming Isaac can come out on top against what is widely expected to be his toughest opponent to date; a world title fight could be in the works before he even turns 22-years old.

“Isaac is ready to fight tomorrow for a world title,” Paul said of his son. “People don’t take him seriously because he has a baby face and he is the youngest ranked fighter in the WBO. But I think Isaac can fight Guillermo Rigondeaux next week. I think by next year or the end of this year, I think if they give him a shot, he will be a world champion.”

The ten round title fight is scheduled to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday at 6PM.
