Three people believed to be supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have drowned in the Volta Lake.
According to the Northern Region Police PRO, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, the supporters were returning from the campaign launch of the NDC parliamentary candidate for Daboya-Mankarigu at Daboya, in the North Gonja district.
The three were part of seven party supporters traveling on a canoe which capsized in the middle of the White River.
He said four out of the seven were rescued after the accident.
He identified the deceased persons as Mavis Sector Coffie 19, Samia Yusuf 19 and Fawdatu Abass whose age was not immediately known. The bodies have been deposited at the Tamale Teaching Hospital morgue pending autopsy.
ASP Ebenezer Tetteh said the police are trying to identify the families of the deceased so they can come for the bodies of their loved ones.
