One person has been reported dead and several others injured when two youth groups clashed in a free-for-all fight at Ashaiman Old Tulaku.
The deceased, 42, who has been identified as Abdullah Peigu also known as ‘Death Road’ was said to have been beaten to pulp on Saturday night but died on Sunday at the hospital.
The incident which infuriated his colleagues also pounced on the other group resulting in a free-for-all fight in the area.
The cause of the gang clash, according to residents was triggered by a fight over a young lady in the area who was an object of interest to members of both gangs.
But the Tema Regional Police PRO, ASP Juliana Obeng said the police cannot confirm that claim.
She told Adom News some section of the residents also said they just saw the two groups embroiled in a deadly brawl.
According to her the fierce encounter caught residents running helter-skelter for their lives.
She said the police have begun investigations into the matter.
Meanwhile, the timely intervention of Municipal Chief Executive of Ashaiman, Ibrahim Baidoo prevented a reprisal attack in the area.
He was said to have had a tipoff on the intended attack by aggrieved gang members of the deceased and quickly called on the police to foil the operation.
Mr. Ibrahim Baidoo is calling for increased police patrol in the area to avert any pandemonium.
