Vice President chased out of Klottey Korle

A scheduled outreach meeting by Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur in the Klottey Korle constituency came to an abrupt end when supporters of incumbent Member of Parliament and parliamentary candidate elect of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) clashed at the event.

The event, according to reports was held to broker peace between the two candidates, Nii Armah Ashietey and Dr. Zenator Rawlings.

The MP is currently in court challenging the eligibility of the daughter of ex-president Jerry Rawlings. He claimed Dr. Zenator Rawlings is not a registered voter which automatically disqualifies her from the race base on the NDC’s rules and Regulations for the primaries.

Nii Armah Ashietey is therefore praying the court to restrain Dr Rawlings from holding herself out as Parliamentary candidate elect for the NDC.

But the move to unite the two factions by the vice president was thwarted when supporters of Dr. Rawlings decorated the event venue with her banner.

Supporters of the incumbent MP in the presence of the vice president, according to sources, vowed not to allow the programme to start until the banner of Dr. Zenator Rawlings is removed.

Constituency executives were forced to call off the programme which was graced by the vice president when the issued turned violent and led to some scuffle between supporters of the two.

Mr. Amissah-Arthur, the source said, had to clandestinely leave the venue to avoid being attacked by the irate supporters.

Constituency treasure, Justice Tetteh confirmed this unfortunate incident to Adom News Tuesday.

He however noted that, the executives managed to bring the issue under control when tempers went high.

“The supporters were fighting over Zenator’s banner but nothing serious happened like is being exaggerated in the media. We were able to bring the situation under control” he added.

Justice Tetteh said they had to postpone the outreach programme to enable them settle the issue amicably ahead of the November 7 elections.
