Football is a sport that has put a smile on millions of faces. But it’s not without its dark side as fan violence has continued to plague the beautiful game.
According to reports from Argentina, a fan has died from his injuries after being beaten and thrown over the side of a stadium.
The victim, Emmanuel Balbo, is a supporter of Argentine football club Belgrano. Balbo was at the stadium among his own fans watching them play Talleres.
But trouble broke out after he was accused of also supporting Belgrano’s fellow Córdoba-based side. He was beaten and thrown down, hitting his head on impact.
The 22-year-old fan suffered from cardiac arrest and major rain trauma, and died the next morning.
His father has blamed one Oscar Eduardo for his son’s death. And according to the grieving father, Eduardo was responsible for the death of Emanuel’s brother in 2012, who was aged just 14.
“My son is a Belgrano fan, but the problem comes from the fact that four years ago one of my sons was killed,” Raúl Balbo told Argentine radio.
“And Emanuel found himself in the crowd with one of the men who killed him.”
“Gomez is a coward and instead of fighting like a man, he incited people around him including his three friends and they beat up my son.”
Four fans have so far been arrested in connection with death.
